Supersport Is Bringing You Closer To Your Paralympics Champions – All You Need To Know About The Paris Paralympics 2024

Following the conclusion of 2024’s Paris Olympics, this year’s Paralympics now take centre stage with over 4000 athletes competing to represent their countries on the podiums.

The 16th edition of the Paralympics is well underway, starting on the 28th of August and set to see its final day on the 8th of September. Over 4000 athletes are set to participate in these games and represent 150 nations across 22 sports.

You can catch all the action live on Supersport from 28 August to 8 September.

The most notable events on the calendar for the paralympic games are:

  • Roland Garros for wheelchair tennis
  • Chateau de Versailles for Para-equestrian events
  • The Stade de France for Para-athletics
  • The Grand Palais for wheelchair, fencing and Para-taekwondo
  • Eiffel Tower for blind football
  • Paris for Para-triathletes
  • River Seine for swimming

To provide for extensive coverage of the games, Supersport on DStv has availed five Paralympic channels, which provides for an increase of three channels when compared to the previous Tokyo Games in 2020 where two Paralympic channels were availed.

Channel 217 (Channel 237 in the Rest of Africa) will serve as a dedicated Paralympic Channel with 24-hour content available.

And on Catch Up, there will be five-minute highlights, along with full repeats for all medal events. All morning and evening athletics and swimming sessions will be compiled into daily 26-minute packages to make catching up to the Games that much easier.

South Africans to watch

South Africa will be represented by 26 athletes in seven different sporting codes. The squad consists of first-time and experienced Paralympians with some squad members being medallists from the previous Tokyo Paralympics. The podium-sitters from the Tokyo Paralympics are Pieter du Preez (Cycling, 1 Gold medal), Louzanne Coetzee (athletics, 1 silver medal, 1 bronze medal), and Sheryl James (athletics, 1 bronze medal). Du Preez will be setting out to secure his second gold medal, and “smash” all barriers ofimpossibility.

These Paralympic games are of extreme importance to the world and to the athletes who train tirelessly to represent their countries, and with SuperSport, the World’s champions are now closer than ever before.
