NBA Africa hosted the first NBA Weekend in Cape Town where 1,500 fans gathered at Hamilton’s Rugby Club for a two-day interactive weekend of basketball, gaming and musical performances.
Thirty-four teams vied for the 3-on-3 championship on Saturday and Sunday where more than 100 men and women participated in the men’s and women’s division. In the Women’s Division, Whiplash won beating Prolific Sports in the finals while in the men’s division, Semi Pro defeated Team B.C in the final each team walking away with R3,500 Puma store vouches and match kits. Whiplash’s Talita Memani and Team B.C’s Sun Mazunda Kalaya were awarded Most Valuable Players for the women’s and men’s division, respectively.
The weekend tipped off with Jr. NBA Clinics for 100 boys and girls under the age of 16 and commenced with total 62 games that led to the eventual crowing of Whiplash and Semi Pro as champions of the women’s and men’s division, respectively.
DeeKoala closed out the first day along with performances by DJ Loyd & Sir Vincent and DJ Ready D.
The festivities continued into Day 2 which saw the quarterfinals and finals of the 3-on-3 tournament, while entertainment included musical performances by Shylean Shelly and Surreal Sessions. The final day concluded with the celebrity game, presented by Puma, as the apparel brand kitted Team KashCPT and Team Tembipowers, and the two teams battled it out on the floor after of Youngsta CPT’s closing performance.
The weekend featured gaming, interactive basketball activities, on the spot prizes by Puma, a beer garden by Castle Lite and a lounge by Hennessey.
